Volunteer Leadership Programme
|
2011
|
Within the above projects and beyond, NCB
produces tools and products that help the sector to develop their
practice and also to include young people in their work such
as:
- A guide for participation work in play, design
and build with 8-13 year olds, produced by Play England.
- A series of How to Guides addressing
many of the issues practitioners and commissioners face in trying
to involve young people, produced by Participation Works.
Project work led by Young NCB (YNCB)
Examples of this would be a survey on smacking
among members and their networks supported by NCB’s research staff,
advising the Metropolitan police and producing films of their
opinions of knife and gang crime, speaking at the All Party
Parliamentary Group for Children, meeting shadow ministers on
matters of anti-social behaviour. As long as what they wish to do
is not contrary to NCB’s vision and mission we will support them in
communicating their voices. When PHSE was a priority for Young NCB
they were successful in supporting NCB to canvass Government to
make the subject a statutory subject. They did this through
attending meetings and sharing their views with government
officials.
The volunteer Leadership Programme funded by V
arose from feedback from YNCB members about the need to enable
young people to get their voices heard about local issues.
Consultations facilitated by NCB with young people
Like many other voluntary organisations NCB is
able to facilitate access to children and young people in response
to consultations. NCB is also part of a small group which is likely
to support 11Million in its efforts to listen to the views of
children and young people now they do not do this from their
centre. The most recent piece of this work has been on Ending
Violence against Women and Girls for the Home Office as part of a
cross government initiative. We sought the views of young people
and offered the only consultation with young people on this
area.
