Partnership and Involvement
For many years NCB has championed the
meaningful involvement and participation of children and young
people in all matters that affect their lives. NCB actively tries
to engage young people in all areas of its work and even involves
young people in the recruitment process of hiring new staff, on its
Board and in the majority of its project work.
Involving children and young people in our work
NCB has 16 staff undertaking participation
activity. Children and young people are involved as co-workers,
advisors and Board members. There are opportunities for children
and young people to get involved in the design, development,
delivery and evaluation of projects and services that impact
children and young people. This extends from policy influence,
communications and evidence gathering to work experience,
internships and apprenticeships. Children and young people speak at
our conferences, contribute to publications we write and also
evaluate specific programmes all of which have a direct impact on
current pieces of work and frame future pieces of work.
We develop participation resources, offer
training on participation, and involve young people in
participation projects and consultations on behalf of other
organisations. We also have a free membership network run by and
for young people called Young NCB.

children and young people internally and

Our participation work is spread across the
entirety of NCB with specialist staff in:
And we are a founding member of Participation Works
which is based at NCB. With partners Participation Works helps
organisations develop capacity to involve children and young people
in the way they work and what they do. It has an online gateway to
participation resources as well as offering accredited training,
regional support networks and an enquiry line.
