PCT Children's Network
Network coordinator: Jo
Butcher
The PCT Children's Network was launched in
2003 to bring together PCTs to discuss emerging policy relating to
children’s health and well-being, support local planning and
capacity building, share information and disseminate good
practice.
The aims of the network are to:
- increase PCTs’ knowledge and understanding of children and
young people’s health and well-being needs and new policy relating
to children’s health and well-being, and improve their skills in
implementing policy, interventions and services
- increase PCTs’ capacity so they can be equal partners in
implementing the Children's National Service Framework (NSF), Every
Child Matters, the Children Act 2004 and the Public Health White
Paper Choosing Health and address the health and well-being needs
of children and young people, working alongside education, social
care, youth and community and youth justice
- raise the profile of important child health issues at PCT
level, such as sexual health and substance misuse (including
alcohol and volatile substances), emotional and mental health,
violence and safety, food and nutrition and physical activity
including play.
- share good practice with regard to commissioning models of
acute paediatric care and service development of children with
long-term conditions
- promote the establishment of managed children’s and maternity
networks, paying particular attention to primary care provision
within the network
- give PCTs regular opportunities to share and disseminate
information and good practice
In addition to meeting three times a year, the network has an email
network with regular summaries of news and information on policy
and practice in relation to children and young people’s health.
